August 29th was a day of celebration at the Rouge Valley Health System's Ajax Pickering hospital location. Hundreds welcomed the arrival of the new MRI machine to its new home. On hand for the occasion were Mayor's Dave Ryan and Steve Parish along with MPP for Ajax Pickering Joe Dickson. The MRI will be installed and tested over the next month with scheduled operation to begin at the end of September 2011.
 
For another year the fireworks display on Canada Day in Pickering, Ontario was a joy to watch. Viewing the spectacle from Millennium Square, myself and several thousand other people took in the yearly light show with the usual sounds of "OOO" and "AHH" eminating from the delighted proud Canadians. The Pickering Museum Village opened its gates for 2011 with a Steam Up and other attractions. Traditional foods from yesteryear were on hand for the public to try as was a military re-enactment for the war of 1812. Pickering, Ontario played host to the 4th annual Ribfest on the first weekend in June 2011. Pickeringonline.info was on hand for the opening day to check out the ribs, carnival rides, musical performances by Al Matthews as well as the band Roadhouse featuring Jim Broomer and Earl Johnson.

On November 20, 2010 the Environmental Stewardship Pickering group held it's first Environment Volunteer Expo. Planned as a result of the two highly successful Environmental Leadership Forums they had run the day was filled with speakers from environmental groups thoughout Pickering.

The members of the South Pickering Seniors Centre celebrated with Ed Beaudette on the occasion of his becoming a centenarian. With one hundred years behind him Ed enjoys the activity at the centre and looks forward to his pack of cards. Ed's daughters Lucille and Patricia were on hand to celebrate with their father on his special day.

People from across Pickering joined together to plant 600 trees at Alex Robertson Park on the weekend. Sponsored by Ontario Power Generation Pickering Nuclear and supported by the City of Pickering and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, this 10th anniversary event brought the total amount of tree's planted to over 8,000.

The Ajax Pickering Board of Trade launched phase II of their environmental checklist for business following up on the successes of the Environmental Task Force. Taking place on in a small park close to the board office, John G. Smith, Chair of the board presided over the ceremony. Both the mayors of Ajax and Pickering brought congratulation to the board on their continuing efforts to promote environmentally responsible solutions to business members and the community as a whole. Gary Strange, a member of the task force outlined the program and was followed by Shawna Mutton of Durham Sustain-ability and President of the board Jason Cameron.

As a finale to the popular Treble in the Park Series the GWood Band, fronted by Eric Newton, played the Esplanade Park Gazebo on August 29th in Pickering, ON.
